Welcome to
Shining the Light on a Family in Darkness
“Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand. And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage. Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil. In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields. Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD”
(Micah 2: 1-5).

Pastor Stinson Finally Speaks Out
January 12, 2001

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As the former President and Chairman of the board of the Trustees for the Church of Israel at Schell City, Missouri, I was on the front line of legal liability in the event of any law suit or criminal indictment. Since I would be personally named in any such legal action taken against the Church, I had a keen interest in the ethical nature of all managerial policies and the practices followed by those in positions of leadership in the Church, particularly those who did not share the same liabilities as myself since they were not on the Board, but yet enjoyed greater privileges in accessing and determining its resources.

This keen interest created many personal concerns over the years that were often expressed in letters to my colleagues who seemed less concerned with their practice and more alarmed with my interest. With a growing professional indifference as demonstrated by what others were willing to accommodate, in November of 2000 I felt compelled to resign in a crisis of conscience that led to my seeking separation and severance from the Church of Israel. In the course of this separation, I wrote a number of letters detailing and outlining the numerous legal, moral, and ethical liabilities that I thought the Church's managerial policies posed to the greater congregation, particularly in light of the Church's public position on Romans 13 and obedience to all civil laws and statutes. While never signed nor sent, these letters were immediately recognized as a threat by my former colleagues whose previous indifference for my concerns is what led to their eventual composition.

While these letters were composed as a sample representation of the Church's liabilities, which as the Chairman of the Board I was directly responsible and would no longer tolerate, their composition and presentation has since been reinterpreted as grounds for extortion, rather than symbols of intolerance justifying my resignation and separation. The very fact that these letters have since been reinterpreted as extortion letters is clear evidence of an underlying existing problem in the Church in those very areas, further justifying my reason for resignation and separation. My former colleagues' previous indifference to my oft repeated concerns, now stands in stark contrast to their ability to present those concerns as grounds for extortion of the Church. If there were no threat presented by those concerns before, why is there such a threat presented by them now? While many in the Church may now be falling under the spell of the one who enjoys total access to all the Church's resources but none of its liabilities, as the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees who was liable for the policies and practices of that person, I could no longer in good conscience represent a Church which claims to follow Romans 13, knowing what I knew.

Further evidence of an attempt to cover the real truth in this matter is revealed in what transpired in the Church office the first two weeks after my separation from the Church. During that time period eyewitnesses reported the lights burning late at night, and frequent trips to the burn barrel with long supervised burning sessions by individuals who otherwise are not known to personally supervise trash burning. The general consensus by those who witnessed this two week ordeal is that the Church office was being purged of any incriminating documents. This two week period culminated with the "secret meeting of the men," where the severance agreement signed by all the ministers was publically recast as criminal extortion. Many people believe the purging of the office was in preparation for this reversal, and was scheduled only after the evidence had been removed. It also appears that the thousands of dollars remaining in the Church safe at the time of the earlier transaction was taken from the safe at this time. A mysterious and questionable land transaction was recorded on the day following this meeting, wherein Dan and Deloris Gayman were said to have sold two unspecified parcels of land to the Church trustees. This convenient paper transfer would of course justify the removal of the Church's liquid assets into the hands of a private party. Thus, when all the evidence was burned and the safe was emptied, the stage was set for what followed.

Since I am now being accused of writing extortion letters that threatened "the women and children of the Church," it has finally become necessary for me to provide an example of the type of letters I did write as well as the type of problems I addressed at the time of my resignation. The reader will quickly recognize that these letters have nothing to do with the women and children of the Church, but rather the questionable policies and practices followed by the Church leadership that have continued unabated through the years despite my protest. It is the belief of many that once all the evidence of these policies had been destroyed and the money removed from the safe, that a course was set to reverse the original severance agreement and make public charges in one of the biggest fiascos that has ever come through Schell City. Otherwise, people point out, why did they wait two weeks before making such charges? Why didn't they do it the day after? What did they have to hide that they first needed to remove before going public with their charges? Why all the late nights at the office? Why all the trips to the burn barell? Why the sudden land purchase from Dan and Deloris Gayman? The answers to these questions will reveal the truth about what really happened at the Church of Israel, and any honest Christian will require some answers.

It is with great reluctance that I must now publish the following letters and their associated documents, after having tried for weeks to avoid disclosure of this type of information. More letters and documents will be published in the future if this matter cannot be quietly resolved. Lastly, I caution everyone who is now on the Board of Trustees to be very cautious about the policies of the Church leaders for which they are directly liable and responsible. I pray for your sake that the same policies of the past will not be the policies of the future, and that my resignation may serve some constructive purpose in this regard.

Lastly, many people have been led to believe that I illegally obtained documents by breaking and entering the Church office. This is an absolute lie. As the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, I had a key to every door and access to every office. Only those who were attempting to hide their questionable practices would view my access as threatening and present my investigation as the Board Chairman in such a negative light. Rest assured, for those who have been told that I climbed through the ceilings as a common criminal, in truth I walked through the doors as a Church trustee with an authorized key. Beware of what you might be told in the future because the desperation of those who continue to avoid accountability grows greater with every day that passes.

Respectfully yours,

Scott Stinson
