Welcome to
Shining the Light on a Family in Darkness
“Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand. And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage. Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil. In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields. Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD”
(Micah 2: 1-5).

Gayman Nephew Arrested

Schell City, MO -- Denny Gayman, 28, was arrested on Sunday, March 16, for pulling a gun and threatening to shoot his wife Colleen and her brother Nathan Buttorff. After an angry marital dispute, Denny's wife Colleen called her brother Nathan, who lives locally, for back up.

When Nathan arrived he approached Denny to talk. Denny then pulled a gun and yelled: "I'll blow your heads off! -- first Nathan's, then Colleen's. Nathan left and called the Sheriff. Shortly thereafter, five quad cars arrived at the rural home of Denny and Colleen, located about five miles west of Shell City just off Highway M. Denny held ground, not allowing anyone in or out, but finally surrendered to Sheriff's deputies.

Denny Gayman was handcuffed and encarcerated overnight at the Vernon County Jail in Nevada. The next day, Doug Gayman, Denny's uncle and oldest son of Pastor Dan Gayman, posted bond of $25,000, and secured Denny's release.

Denny Gayman is the son of Dale and Lena Gayman and nephew of Church of Israel patriarch, Pastor Daniel Lee Gayman. Colleen's brother Nathan Buttorff is married to Dana (Gayman) Buttorff, youngest daughter of Pastor Gayman. Denny's wife Coleen is youngest daughter of Wanda Buttorff, formerly of Dallas, Texas. Her husband is deceased. In the late 1990's, Wanda Buttorff and four of her seven children relocated to the Schell City area to join the Church of Israel there. Children who relocated with her at the time were Colleen, oldest daughter Katrina and sons Nathan and Grainger. Daughter Heather (Buttorff) Middleton and her husband Steve Middleton already lived near Schell City since the early 1990's. Colleen married Denny Gayman in May of 1997. Brothers Steven and Adam Buttorff live elsewhere.

Denny Gayman grew up at home near rural Shell City and environs. In 1993-1994 Denny and Nathan were the oldest students at the Church of Israel's School of Dominion, a school designed to help boys mature into manhood. As a teenager, Denny had established a reputation for mischief and picking fights with younger and smaller boys. At the School of Dominion, he was reprimanded for bringing a porrnographic drawing into the school. The incident was soon hushed and covered up by his uncle, Pastor Dan Gayman. Denny was allowed to remain in the school which lasted for one year. Denny later attended trade school in Nevada and became a journeyman welder. After his recent release from jail, Denny returned home where he rejoined his wife Colleen.

Denny's father Dale was officially excommunicated from the Church of Israel for three months during the mid 1990's when he was accused of groping two teenage girls, who eventually reported the incident to local authorities. After about 6 months, Dale was received back into full fellowship of the Church of Israel, after he read publicly a "confession" statement prepared by his brother Paster Dan Gayman. However, he privately denied the charges, even though he had previously submitted to and failed a lie detector test paid for by the Church of Israel. Pastor Dan Gayman later told parishioners privately that "it was the girls' fault, Dale didn't do anything."

Denny's uncle Doug Gayman, who posted Denny's bond, was involved in a bitter divorce in 1996-97. Wife Conny accused her husband Doug Gayman of gross sexual misconduct with their minor children. She had previously reported the abuses to ministers in the Church of Israel, including brother in law Pastor Reed Benson (married to Doug's sister Julie), and her father in law, Pastor Dan Gayman. The elder Pastor Gayman told Conny he would "counsel Doug and handle it," and that she should not go to the authorities. Abuses continued. She fled with the children to Springfield for protection. Green county authorities there investigated and concluded overwhelmingly that the children had been sexually abused by their father Doug Gayman. Official Green County Child Protective Agency reports, along with letters written by the children themselves, can be seen elsewhere on this website. Conny ultimately fled with the children to her homeland in Holland, where she was born. Doug Gayman has since remarried and lives locally.

“And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you” (II Peter 2:2-3).
